Today we met with Artsay Founder Ibrahim Sayin and Uzbekistan Regional Manager Mustafa Gungor, one of Turkey's leading companies in biological ponds and natural water systems. We asked them about the future of the sector, international projects and why biological ponds are increasingly being chosen.
Question: We're seeing rapid growth in interest in biological ponds in recent years. What is the main reason for this?
Ibrahim Sayin:
People no longer just want water features that look aesthetically pleasing. They also demand sustainable, environmentally friendly and long-lasting systems. Because biological ponds work according to natural ecosystem principles, they are both environmentally sensitive and healthier for users. With this growing interest, biological ponds have become an important choice in villa projects, hotels, public spaces and large landscape projects.
Question: What is the most important feature that sets Artsay apart in the sector?
Ibrahim Sayin:
We don't just look at projects as ponds. We evaluate each project as a living space with its own ecosystem.
For a biological pond to function trouble-free for many years, filtration systems, water circulation, biological balance and engineering calculations must be done correctly. As Artsay, we combine strong aesthetic design with a solid engineering infrastructure.
To date, we have completed numerous biological pond projects at different scales in Turkey and Uzbekistan. In particular, our large-scale applications in Uzbekistan and the projects we have implemented in national gardens and living spaces have given us significant experience.
Question: The projects you have carried out in Uzbekistan attract a lot of attention. How did this process begin?
Mustafa Gungor:
Uzbekistan has become a country where major investments are being made and landscaping projects are developing rapidly in recent years.
As Artsay, we have gained significant experience through the projects we have carried out in the region. In particular, our approximately 16,000 m² biological pond project in Hiva and our biological pond and swimming pool applications in the Dormon region are among the important examples of our expertise in the region.
In these projects, we developed filtration systems suitable for different climate conditions and applied solutions that keep large volumes of water clear in the long term.
The projects we have completed in Uzbekistan today can be seen not only as a technical achievement, but also as an indicator that we are a reliable brand on an international scale.
Question: What is the biggest challenge in large-scale biological pond projects?
Mustafa Gungor:
As the area grows, the complexity of the system also increases.
Especially in biological ponds of 5,000 m², 10,000 m² and larger, achieving balanced circulation at every point of the water, correctly determining filtration capacity and maintaining water quality over the long term requires serious engineering experience.
As in the Hiva and Dormon projects, in large-volume systems, hydraulic calculations, filtration design and equipment selection directly affect the success of the project.
For this reason, in large projects, not only equipment selection but also engineering and biological system design are of great importance.
Question: What is your advice for investors who want to build a biological pond?
Ibrahim Sayin:
First, I recommend they look at reference projects.
A biological pond may look beautiful in its first year. What really matters is whether the system can show the same performance five years later.
For this reason, investors need to pay attention not just to initial cost, but to long-term operating costs, the quality of the equipment used and the experience of the implementing company.
Question: Among the projects Artsay has carried out to date, which are the most special to you?
Ibrahim Sayin:
Each project has its own value for us. However, in particular the Uzbekistan Hiva Biological Pond Project, the Dormon Biological Pond and Swimming Pool Project, the ASELSAN Golbasi Campus, Uzbekistan Zangiota-ZamZam, the Samarkand Imam Buxori Project and various national garden projects have been important milestones for us in terms of both engineering scale and environmental contribution.
We believe that through these projects, we have demonstrated exemplary applications not only in terms of aesthetics but also in terms of sustainability and supporting natural life.
Question: What are Artsay's future goals?
Mustafa Gungor:
We aim to further expand our operations in Turkey and Uzbekistan.
In the coming period, we are planning new investments in biological ponds, biological swimming pools, natural water systems and sustainable landscaping projects.
Our goal is not only to produce projects, but also to contribute to the spread of living spaces in harmony with nature.
Question: Finally, is there a message you would like to give to our readers?
Ibrahim Sayin:
The living spaces of the future will be designed in harmony with nature.
Biological ponds are not just decorative water features, they are also part of a sustainable lifestyle. As Artsay, we will continue to bring together respect for nature, engineering quality and long-lasting solutions in every project.
